Ahhh toddlerhood....

Bad Blogger!  Bad, bad blogger!  Geez.... it's been like a year since I last updated this.  Oops.  Not even sure what to write!  Audrey is 19 months old.  She walks and talks and sings and dances, whines and screams and is very head strong!  She knows all colors, shapes, body parts, some numbers and letters.  All animals and their sounds.  She speaks in almost full sentences - "Daddy eat that."  "Audrey do that."  "Mama go there." etc... She can say hundreds of words.  She did great with sign language but is well past that stage now.  She can identify the letter A - "A, Audrey, A!" and M - "M, Mama", "D, Daddy".  :)  The number 9 seems to be her favorite and she can identify it.  If I write her name, Mama, and Dada, she knows that's what words they are.

She sleeps great at night.  Down for bed around 6:30 most of the time and she asks for me to put her in her bed.  Says bye bye or na-night once she's down.  She wakes around 6:45-7:15 in the morning.  Napping is sketchy these days.  She's been down to one nap a day for months now and for a while, the morning nap was always a guarantee.  Then it's been slowly transitioning to later in the day, closer to midday or early afternoon but still falling around 11am sometimes.  Last few days to a week or so she's had quite short ones though.  She had been averaging about an hour and 15 minutes but recently she barely sleeps 40 minutes.  I'm wondering if her second set of molars are coming in soon.... she's had her full set of teeth from molar to molar on top and bottom for months.  16 teeth since about 16 months I believe.

Feeding her is tricky.  She doesn't like being confined to the high chair so we rarely use it.  She would always rather eat whatever is mine or Brian's than what is set aside for her.  She eats great when we are out at a restaurant.  She will almost always eat a pouch.  Any flavor, any time so it's a good fall back.  I just bought 10 reusable pouches so I can fill them with stuff like applesauce and yogurt.  They are just so much easier than having to try to feed her with a bowl and spoon.  She can use a spoon on her own just fine but I prefer her to be in the high chair when she does so food doesn't end up all over the house.

She loves snow.  She wants to hold it and eat it all the time.  Whenever we leave the house to get in the car, she requests a snowball to hold and eat for the ride.

Trying to get her into the car seat can be very difficult at times.  As well as getting her to eat, changing her diaper, getting her dressed, putting on shoes and coat and hat, etc etc.  She's still nursing on demand which can be quite often sometimes.  But she seems to do fine without when she's with someone else for several hours.  She still nurses "to sleep" for nap and for bedtime but now she goes down into her bed still awake at night.  I'm hoping that can transition to naps soon too but at this point, putting her down awake just makes her realize it's still day time and she doesn't want to nap because she has too much to do!  No matter how sleepy she might be.  :)

She's very smart and funny and beautiful and amazing.  She's quite a character and makes me laugh all the time.  Making silly faces, doing crazy dances.  Oh!  And lately, she loves building blanket forts in the living room.  We build one pretty much every day.  And she loves The Little Mermaid.  and Elmo.  She can identify Michael Jackson music.  :)

It's a lot of hard work and frustration being a stay at home mom who doesn't get out of the house enough, but it's still very rewarding and I'm truly grateful to be able to do it.  I'm working on myself more these days and feeling less stressed already.  Making sure to get more me time out on my own and letting others watch Audrey more often.  :)  I'm a work in progress.

Well, there's an update.  Lots of stuff missed in between my last post and now.  But I've uploaded hundreds of videos to youtube and pictures to shutterfly to certainly fill in lots of gaps.  Maybe I'll get on here for more updates now.... we shall see.

So many new things!!!

Ugh! It's been forever since I updated. Wow. Audrey is over 8 months old now. So many new things to write about! She's napping so I'll try to get as many things in here as I can.
- She's doing pretty much everything except crawling forward. She's pretty good at getting around with scooting, rolling, and maneuvering to sitting position. She'll just face plant forward... lol
- She seems to like light touch massage. If she is fussing when on the changing table, I'll lightly tickle her skin and she'll get very still and quiet. :)
- She sings along with music sometimes. Like with her stuffed animals that sing the abc's or with other music. So cute.
- She's mastering the pincer grasp a little better. She likes to pick up pieces of food and feed herself. She really is not a fan of being spoon fed. She wants to do it all herself. She loves crepes.
- She really likes to pull herself up to standing position. She's trying to pull up on stuff all the time, including my hands/legs, the crib railing, her singing world toy... etc.
- She doesn't seem to be a fan of the elephant noise. She screams and looks scared!
- Ugh, screeching is something she is doing all the time. Happy, sad, mad, if she wants something, etc. It's awful! I'm hoping she can start picking up on some sign language soon so she can communicate that way instead, because I'm going deaf.
- We are working on nap time and letting her put herself to sleep. I've had some success with putting her in the pack n play to play for a bit and then she gets sleepy and goes to sleep. Only a few times now and it didn't work today, but it's progress.
- Definitely more teeth starting to come in on the top. It looks like possibly 3 or 4 at once! She has some rough nights sometimes because it seems to hurt. :(
- She tries to help turn pages when reading a book sometimes.
- She will mimic coughing or raspberries sometimes and it's so funny.
- Peekaboo will make her laugh and she did it by herself for the first (and only time so far) at Dad and Pat's vow renewal. Caught a little bit on video, have to try to post it. I think she liked the reaction she was getting from everyone.
- She loves to touch things with her pointer finger. If you hold yours out to her, she'll put her little finger on yours. So cute. She also likes to do this when she is nursing.... I try so hard not to laugh when she puts her little finger on my nipple. Lol.
- In one of her books, there are pictures of leopards (The Great Monkey Race) and she points at them a lot. I think she likes them. :)
- She talks to the kitties. She likes when they meow and it seems like she is trying to meow back.
- She also tries to get their attention if they aren't looking her way.
- She's been rolling right over to her tummy with her butt up in the air when I put her down for bed at night. I also tend to find her pushing up on her arms or sitting up when I go in in the middle of the night. She is still waking once or twice per night. I think because of teething and because she gets into these positions and seems to not be able to get comfortable again. I'm still nursing her most of the times she wakes, unless it's before midnight and Brian can get her to settle. Sometimes that doesn't work though, so in I go.
- She's bitten down while nursing several times. Usually my reaction surprises her and she stops right away, wide-eyed. I say "no thank you, all done" and put it away. Doesn't really seem to be too much of an issue though. We'll see how it goes once those top teeth come in. I can usually tell if she is thinking about biting if I watch her mouth. It seems to be at the end of the nursing session when she is done anyway, and just playing around.
- When she is in the pack n play, she likes to scratch her nails on the mesh sides. She likes if I do it too and when Mayhem is putting her paws on it, she thinks it's funny. Mayhem is constantly trying to jump in there with her. Audrey finds it entertaining. :)

Well, that's everything I had on my list. I'm sure there is so much more that I'm forgetting.... We are still working on trying to increase solid foods. It's tough when she won't take any spoon feeding. I'm just trying to offer more finger foods throughout the day for her, since she prefers to do it herself. Sometimes I have success with spoon feeding if I let her hold onto the spoon with me, while I guide it into her mouth. Either that, or she has her own spoon to play with while I try to get a second spoon with actual food on it into her mouth. She loves greek yogurt but still doesn't really like me to spoon it to her that much. She loves crepes! She likes feeding herself baby puffs. We've done green beans, cantaloupe, waffles, toast, pancakes - usually cut into little pieces for her to nibble or big pieces she can hold and chew on. Oh and pizza crust! She loves gnawing on that. My sister came up for a visit a couple weeks ago so that was fun. Hmm... what else? The weather is warm this week, and it's awesome! Gets me excited for spring and summer and playing outside with Audrey. I don't think it will be long before she is walking all over the place. Aggh!! Time is going by so fast. She's nearly one! We've retired her swing. She's not really into it anymore. We set up her high chair. Put away her crib mobile. I rearranged her room a little bit yesterday. Have to go through clothes again. Need to take out her 9 month stuff. She can still wear most of her 6 month things.

Ok, I should try to shower quickly before she wakes up. :) Til next time! (hopefully it's not too long from now!)

Teeth!!

my little munchkin has been waking up every 2 hours for the last 3 or 4 nights and i am on the verge of losing my mind with exhaustion... well this morning i discovered 2 little bottom teeth trying to poke out!! Oh my goodness! it's nice to have a known reason, I was starting to worry about what could be wrong. I can't believe she is getting teeth now! Gosh, makes me a little sad. She's growing so fast!

Not sure if I can put a picture from my iPod, but I'll try. :) (can't do it so I came to the computer)

She turns 6 months on Friday. This weekend we'll start her introduction to solid food with avocado. And of course, there will be video so stay tuned!

Audrey's first Christmas

I've been away from blog posting for too long! I feel so busy every day! Well, we are gearing up for Audrey's first Christmas. So fun! She is growing and changing rapidly. She reaches out to pet and play with the kitties now, which is super cute. She is learning how to make all kinds of new sounds. She loves to jump in her bouncy seat. Sometimes I swear she is going to launch herself right out of it! She's teething but since we got her an amber necklace a week or so ago, she hasn't had any more major meltdowns so I'm hoping it's helping her teething pain. Let's see, what else? She loves to grab her feet and suck her toes. She's 5+ months but can still wear 0-3 month pants and 3 month clothes. :) She's starting to tolerate being held face in, or on my hip, instead of just face out. She actually fell asleep chest to chest with me last night! She hasn't done that since she was tiny, and I LOVED it. She was waking up a couple times per night again recently... but the last two nights in a row she has slept all night, which is lovely. I'm getting ready to start her on solid foods in January, once she is 6 months. I think I want to start with avocado... hoping to make our own baby food too. She's very good at propping herself up on her arms but doesn't seem very interested in trying to crawl. She still doesn't care to be on her belly for too long. She can roll over no problem but most of the time doesn't seem to want to. She can almost sit up unassisted. She loves to stand though, and will jump up and down on your lap. Hmm.... that's all I can think of at the moment... Oh! She loves the song "There were 10 in the bed and the little one said..." She smiles and giggles whenever she hears it. She also really likes when I sing her lullabies to her. She could be full on crying because she is tired and I'll start to sing and she'll stop and give me big smiles. :) It's the best. She has a pretty consistent nap schedule - 9:30 am, noonish, and 2pm or so. Of course, it's not always exact but it's a good timeline to follow most days. She's also got this new way of letting me know she wants to eat. If I'm holding her, facing out, she'll put her right hand up (since I always hold her with my left arm) against my chest and turn her head toward me while sucking on her bottom lip. It's adorable. It's like she's saying, "Hey Mom, I think I'm hungry." Not sure if I mentioned this before, but she gets tired but doesn't want to sleep. Especially if there is anything stimulating going on around her, like different people around or if we are out somewhere else.... even at home she'll fuss before going to sleep, pretty much every time. Usually, I give her "stuffy bear" and she puts him over her face, closes her eyes and sucks her bottom lip. She really needs to block out everything to let herself sleep. If she doesn't have stuffy bear, she pulls on her shirt or bib or brings her hands together up to her face over and over while she fusses.

How am I, you ask?? ;) I sooooo love being a mommy. It's a lot of hard work, and I certainly get frustrated and tired and have cabin fever a lot, but it is the most rewarding job I've ever had and I feel so fortunate to be able to stay at home with my baby girl. When she smiles or giggles, it lights up my world. I just can't get enough. Oh, that's another thing - she is giggling a lot now. Lots of random things will make her giggle. I just got a video the other day of her laughing because I was banging my hands on the floor. She was even snorting! Lol, she must get that from her mama. :) Here's a link to the video:

I also try to keep my shutterfly share site updated with photos and videos (there are TONS) at this link: http://thepodge.shutterfly.com/

Well, today was unusual because I have been up since she ate at 5:30. She went right back to sleep and usually I do too but I have so many things going through my head - ideas and preparations for Christmas, so I couldn't get back to sleep. So here I sit writing a new blog. It's 8:34am and the little munchkin is just now stirring, as I type this! So time to get back to my daily routine. Hope to update again soon!

Superpoints, how fun!

Ok this is totally random but I came across this site called Superpoints Network. You rack up points which can then be redeemed for rewards, like gift cards, etc. Well, it's completely free and there are several ways to get points. You can:
1) click the SuperLucky button for chances to win points. Think of it like playing slot machines for free. i find it quite fun!
2) get points in emails that are sent to you from Superpoints. Easy peezy!
3) watch videos. Also very easy. there aren't a lot of new ones daily... i've been on for about 3 weeks and seen maybe 3 or 4, but when they do have them, they are a quick easy way to get some points.
4) fill out offers. i don't do a lot of these but there are some free and easy ones if you wade through them. there are also things like surveys, and online shopping that you might already be doing anyway...
Anyway, i have been doing it for about 3 weeks now and I already have over 1200 points. 500pts gets you a $5 amazon gift card or $5 paypal cash. So I've already gotten over $10 for Free! i think that's pretty sweet. a good way to get more points really easily is to recruit friends to sign up. I know, I know, it's a pyramid scheme, but it's FREE so you really can't lose anything. membership is by invitation only. so if anyone out there reading this is interested in trying it out, here are some "invite tokens" (links posted at bottom of this post). just click the links and it brings you to the site so you can register with me as your "sponsor". again, it is totally free, there are no hidden obligations. i find it kinda fun to click the superlucky button and try to win points. oh, you start with 5 clicks per day, i think, but if you make sure to verify your email and complete your profile you go up to like 30 clicks per day. once you get some friends signed up you get more clicks. it only took me a week or so to get up to the highest (platinum) membership and i get 100 clicks per day. if i sit down to just click the button, and my internet isn't acting slow, i can get the 100 clicks done in a fairly short amount of time, like 15 minutes or less.
what it boils down to is free cash for me, which is great being a stay at home mom right now. so if you think you might like it, give it a shot! and let me know if these links don't work. they are only active for 7 days max, and then you need a new one... and it's one per person. but i always have more, so leave a comment if you are looking for an invite and i'd be happy to put up more. :)

4 months

It's 6am, Sunday. I'm feeding The Podge. This was the 4th or 5th night in a row that she hasn't woken up for a middle of the night feeding!
Other developments - for a week or two now she hasn't really been interested in her pacifier anymore. She'd rather have her "stuffy bear" and suck on her hand or lips. She's getting very good at sitting up with little assistance. And last night for the first time, she voluntarily reached out to pet Mischief. It was so cute! She "pet" her several times. :)
Tomorrow morning we have her 4 month appointment. I'm curious what she weighs and what percentile she is in.
Ok, gonna go. She's finishing up and I think she'll go down for a couple more hours of sleep. :).
Til next time...

10/20/2010

One year ago today, I got a really faint line on a pregnancy test and boy was I excited... :)
